Inner City Group Project Update: AUGUST, 18, 2006

South Duke Street Improvements: Church to Dauphin Streets: Median Strip, back in angled parking, bulb outs at curb intersections, two new traffic signals at North and Dauphin Streets, dura-therm crosswalks at all intersections, repaving of street: Bid advertisement: July 27, Bid approval by PennDOT: August 31, Bids awarded: Early October, Notice to Proceed: October 27, 2006. City will waive all permitting fees.

South Duke Street Residential Façade and Code Related Renovations: HOME funds will be used to rehabilitate a minimum of 3 residential properties along South Duke Street (these properties have been on our

 Church Pointe pocket-park at Church and Farnum Streets with its stately colonial clock tower has been turned over to the neighborhood for safekeeping at dedication attended by 50 persons.

  10/06/2006 - Elm Street Facade Work on Four Howard Ave & Five King Street Houses Completed
 Facade Repairs have been completed on nine houses on Howard Avenue (four houses) and East King Street (five houses) as part of the first phase of the Elm Street neighborhood enhancement program. Forty property owners are enrolled in the Elm programs on East King and Howard.

And So We Begin
The Inner City News, launching this week, is more than a traditional website. It is also a web magazine that will be produced daily as a chronicle of the work, activities and enterprise of the citizens of the historic southeast section of the City of Lancaster.

While the site will offer interactive access to the reports, tools and graphics of ongoing projects and staff of the Inner City Group, the Inner City News is something entirely new: Community Journalism and its appeal definitely begins at the grass roots level, local in every sense of that word “neighborhood”.
